FLUTES
original G. Rudolf Uebel model 116 Boehm System Flute approx. 1970Beautiful playing and excellent condition Rudolf Uebel made in Germany professional metal Flute. Instrument features a wonderful rich and warm sound; Flute plays extremely well at 440 Hz, sounding / acoustic length is 23 1/2” ( 600 mm); German-silver key work; aluminum body, silver plated head joint with black plastic lip-plate and crown. The Uebel family's history of woodwind instrument making dates back to the 1870's in the Saxonia region of Germany, an area long renown for musical instrument craftsmanship. Gerhard Rudolf Uebel (1915-1991) took over flute production when his uncle F. Arthur Uebel passed away in 1963. Not to be tied to simply reproducing traditional flutes, Uebel made a number of innovative instruments, beginning in the 1930's, using materials from grenadilla wood to aluminum. This is a Boehm system flute consisting of a thick aluminum body in a single piece which tapers at both ends. German-silver keys and trill touch plates are stylistically designed reflecting angular shapes rather than usual circular and elongated forms. Holes in body are recessed and sit within partly angular cut bed rather than in perfect circular shape. Pillars for key rods are screwed directly into body wall rather than being soldered, screwed or attached to small ribs. It has a separate silver-plated head joint with moulded black plastic lip plate. This is a very unique Instrument and the more time spent with this flute, the greater one's appreciation for the innovation and design !
