Johann Adam Schönfelder Violin Anno 1743Beautiful 4/4 size german violin with all original Yellow-brown varnish, perfect inlay work on it and ropeing all away around the sides. this violin is in excellent shape with no damage or repairs to it. tag is still intact and reads: Johann Adam Schonfelder - Violin Macher in Neukirchen Ao. 1743. the inlay on back is all there with no missing pieces at all. Violin has a wonderfull tone, excellent acoustical properties, narrow and wide grain tops. Also Violin is set up with new strings. Some about Makers History: Johann (Hans) Adam Schoenfelder (1707 - 1763) born in in Neukirchen, Germany. All the Schoenfelder later on and earlier were family members. Violin building was their family tradition from 1677 on, when "Johann Georg Casper Schönfeld" from "Graslitz" where he learned the violin-building came to Neukirchen. But its not totally clear if the first in the family was him or Johann Georg I (the first) Schoenfeld who was mentioned first time in 1677 also. The instruments that were made by Johann Adam Schoenfelder usualy were painted in a "bright yellow-brown", seldom in a "dark red brown". The slip of paper inside is printed and says: "Johann Adam Schönfelder Violinmacher in Neukirchen Ao 1743" (for example), the letters "Ao" stand for the word "Anno" which means Anno Domini (latin for: "in the year of the lord"). A very good violin made by Johann Adam similar like the one we offer is in the "Gothenburger Museum".
